Welcome to my Electronic Portfolio!!
Hello, my name is Lexi Thompson. I am a senior at The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown studying to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Multimedia and Digital Culture with a Minor in Communications. Throughout this semester I have created and updated this blog site weekly explaining the different types of projects that I was tasked with. Below is a summary of the projects that I have created that I would like to add to my Portfolio.
To start off I had to think of a topic that I was interested in and may interest others as well so I choose to do my topic on Snowboarding for my personal blog.
Secondly, our first class assignment was to come up with and also create a "Logo" as if I had my own brand. This is my first attempt at designing a logo in the very early stages of drafting. After talking with my classmates and getting a better idea about logo designs I came up with this for my second attempt. Once again there were some changes that I had made just to make the logo look more professional so I did some more editing and this is the final logo design I came up with that I like the best. I will also include my "Brand Template" that goes along with why I chose this logo.
Thirdly, our second class assignment was to create a "Zine", which is a small press publication that is like a magazine with a twist: it is non-commercial, grassroots, independently published and captures the spirit of DIY/DIY (Do-It-Yourself/Do-It-Together) ideologies so basically in simple terms it is a little booklet that we created that had a specific order to it that turned out like this, of course my Zine subject was on Snowboarding.
Fourthly, our third class assignment was to create an "Infographic" which in my opinion is a flyer of information to catch the viewers attention so I chose to show the steps on how to choose a snowboard which is based on your height and weight, board type (traditional camber, rocker & camber, flat camber, or combination camber), and skill level (beginner, intermediate, advanced, or expert).
Fifthly, our fourth class assignment was to create a "Corpus Analysis" where we used a website called Voyant to paste a bunch of information that I had previously copied from a snowboarding blog and pasted into Voyant and it gave me a breakdown and charts of the information like a line graph and cluster of the most commonly used words. After I looked over the data I put the information into a powerpoint to make more sense and break it down some into pieces and explain it better.
Sixthly, our fifth class assignment was to create two or three different Humanities Flyers for some of the professors at UPJ to promote their class for the Spring classes of 2020. I chose to do a flyer for Dr. Stoneham's English Literature Course called Living on the Edge: Extreme Literature and its Racial Impact on Society and also Professor Marissa Landrigan's English Writing Course called Creative Nonfiction.
Seventhly, our sixth class assignment was to create a "Photo Story" which is a series of photos in a specific order that tell a story with minimal words. My photo story was about the four season of a snowboarder (meaning what I do in the off-season), starting with Spring time when I like to go fishing and just relax, Summer time I am always outside and I ride my quad, Fall when I like to go for mountain bike rides since the air is cooler, and Winter when I of course snowboard again.
Eigthly, our seventh class assignment was to create a "Video" which I went to a local ski shop in Altoona and asked if they minded a video of Troy helping me upgrade my snowboard and he agreed so the video shows what to expect when you go in and truly how helpful they are choosing a snowboard that fits your height and weight requirement, boots, bindings, and setting your board up properly to hit the slopes.
Lastly, our last class assignment was to create or digitize photographs from JAHA or Johnstown Area Heritage Association. For this project we worked with a local company and with David and Dr. Justus to take photographs that they have in there possession and digitize them and send the photos to Pittsburgh to be approved and then added to a data collection on the internet so that the public can see photographs from the Johnstown Flood in 1977. After scanning the photographs we created metadata that basically describes the photograph to make it easier for the viewer to find and categorizes them.
